There are hundreds of small wineries in Mexico today, each competing for the growing domestic market and, in many cases, the worldwide market.
One of these wineries, Bodega Casa Náufrago, got a boost recently when the Consejo Mexicano Vitivinícola (Mexican Wine Council) and the Cámara Nacional de la Industria de Restaurantes y Alimentos Condimentados organized a tasting and food pairing event to promote the brand. The event took place September 18 at Naufragio Restaurant in Mexico City.
Casa Náufrago, founded in 2019, is a family business that produces high quality wines and pursues the dream of competing with the best wines, not only in Mexico but internationally. Located in Valle de Parras, Coahuila, Mexico, they have 120 hectares of vineyards, of which they have allocated 12 hectares for each of their varietals, such as:
- Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Tempranillo.
- Petit Verdot.
- Malbec.
- Syrah.
- Merlot.
- Cabernet Franc.
- Marselan.
- Chardonnay.
On this occasion Ana Paula Robles, director of CMV and the host Humberto Pulido, commercial director of Bodega Casa Náufrago, welcomed food journalists and influencers to the event.
Various wines from Casa Náufrago were paired with courses as follows:
- Glazed pork belly toast with chili sauce and sour cucumber salad with Chardonnay 2021 white wine aged 6 months in French oak barrels of first use.
- Marinated golden pork taquito with barbecue sauce with Syrah 2021 red wine aged 12 months in French oak barrels first use.
- Pork tenderloin chicharrón gyozas with spicy with 2021 Malbec red wine aged 12 months in French oak barrels first use.
- Mini mil hojas de cajeta with red fruit jam and lemon cream with Syrah Rosé Wine 2023 aged 12 months in first use French oak barrels.
This event is a sample of the work done by the Mexican Wine Council to promote young Mexican wines. The wines of Casa Náufrago achieved perfect harmony with the menu chosen for pairing.
