Zarela Martinez celebrates 30th Anniversary of New York arrival with one-woman show
Renowned Mexican food expert, chef and restaurateur Zarela Martinez will soon add “actress” to her list of accomplishments when she opens in Zarela Act 7, a one-woman show that debuts April 9 at 7 p.m. at Casa Mezcal, 86 Orchard Street, New York City.
The show, described as “equal parts performance art, cooking lesson, inspirational memoir, and—when you least expect it—soulful serenade,” features Martinez serving up cooking and entertaining tips as she recounts stirring tales of her colorful family and the people who have shared their lives and recipes with her. Interwoven will be songs that she’s been singing since she was a child and that tell their own story. She will be accompanied on the guitar by Humberto Flores of the Villalobos Brothers group.
The evening—priced at $50 per person—includes the entertainment plus tasting portions of three recipes and two drinks (choice of mezcal tasting, tequila 1921 Zarela margarita, or LA Cetto wine).
