Tito’s Tacos, a beloved taco restaurant in Culver City, California, has been serving amazing Mexican food since 1959. Tito’s Handmade Vodka has been an essential cocktail ingredient since 1997.
Finally the two Tito’s are coming together!
What’s the occasion? Remarkably, National Taco Day and National Vodka Day are both October 4th this year, so the twin Tito’s are teaming up to host “Tito’s Fiesta Mexicana” on that day. The event will be a fundraiser for the Culver City Cultural Affairs Foundation.
“We’ve been happily serving Los Angelinos for the last 60 years,” says Lynne Davidson, president of Tito’s Tacos and granddaughter of its founder. “We’re excited to partner with Tito’s Handmade Vodka to celebrate one of the most important days of the year and together give back to the community.”
The event was the brainchild of Wirt Morton, Davidson’s husband. Morton, a former entertainment industry executive, says that when he saw that National Taco Day and National Vodka Day fell on the same date, he couldn’t resist attempting to unite his restaurant with the famous vodka. He approached the Tito’s Vodka people about the idea and they immediately jumped on it, he says.
The family-friendly event, which will be held in a blocked-off cul-de-sac beside Tito’s Tacos, will feature music by mariachi bands, piñatas for the kids, and traditional Mexican children’s games. Cocktails with Tito’s Vodka and mini-tacos from Tito’s Tacos will be served. It will cost $25 per person, and Tito's Vodka will double the donations raised by the event, up to $10,000.
Morton reports that the restaurant is promoting the event with poster art about the event in its dining room and on its take-out boxes, and it will devote a month of its TV ads to it. They will also take out a full-page newspaper ad.
Both of the Tito’s are known for their charitable events, so joining forces to support the Culver City Cultural Affairs Foundation makes sense.
“At Tito’s Handmade Vodka our motto is to turn spirits into love and goodness,” says Brian Herlihy, field sales marketing manager at Tito's Handmade Vodka. “We’re grateful to partner with Tito’s Tacos and connect with the LA community that we both serve.”
