Two acclaimed taquerias are joining forces to bring New York City (NYC) customers a taste of Michelin-starred tacos. Mexico City-based El Califa De Leon, the world’s first Michelin-starred taqueria, partnered Tacombi to launch a one-night pop-up on October 16 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Tacombi’s Flatiron location on West 24th Street in NYC. The event will feature all four of El Califa de Leon’s award-winning tacos — the Bisteck, Costilla, Gaonera and Chuleta — plus their two famous salsas, created and served by El Califa de Leon Owner Mario Hernandez Alonso. Tacombi’s proprietary Vista Hermosa tortillas, made fresh on-site, also will be provided.
After the launch event, a selection of El Califa’s tacos, priced at $6 per taco, will be available at all Tacombi’s NYC locations from October 17 - October 31. This will be the first time the Michelin-starred tacos will be available in the U.S.
“We are honored to partner with El Califa de Leon and share their tradition with our guests across Tacombi,” says Tacombi Founder Dario Wolos, who met Hernandez Alonso during a trip to Mexico City and came up with the idea to collaborate over many rounds of tacos.
