March was a busy month on NYC’s culinary scene, with two new restaurants joining the roster of options for customers craving Mexican fare.
Joining the scene on March 13 was Populares — "a modern boutique Mexican restaurant, taqueria and bar located in the heart of East Village's Ave B … with a focus on popular Mexican dishes and tacos reimagined with a modern twist,” the website says.
The layout has a twist too: the taqueria is “seamlessly integrated into the dining room and bar area,” so “guests can savor freshly made tacos at any time of the evening,” according to a release about the opening.
"Our goal is to offer a dining experience that not only showcases the beloved flavors of Mexican cuisine but also transports our guests to a vibrant and inviting atmosphere that captures the essence of both Mexico and the East Village,” Owner Mido Emad said.
Chef Guy Vaknin’s Siete, the seventh restaurant from City Roots Hospitality Group, debuted with a soft opening in NYC’s Flatiron District March 12-14. The restaurant features a menu of regional dishes — all vegan and kosher certified.
“At the heart of our culinary philosophy lies a commitment to sourcing the finest and freshest plant-based ingredients, ensuring that each dish reflects the authenticity and diversity of Mexican cuisine,” Siete’s website says of the menu described as “an artfully curated symphony of flavors, including tacos, ceviches, shared plates, entrees, desserts, and crafted cocktails.”
