Wines from Mexico continue to impress world class judges, based on the results of the Red and White Wine Session of the 2024 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the benchmark of international wine and spirits competitions. Mexican wines earned 80 gold medals and 79 silver medals at the competition, held June 7 to 9 in the city of León, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Among the golds for Mexican wines were nine Grand Golds, the highest ranking. Those were awarded to:
- Zeus Tinto 2020, Zinfandel, Hoteles y Viñedos del Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California
- López Rosso Cavas Viognier 2023, Viñedos y Crianzas Lopez SPR de RL de CV, Zacatecas
- Dos Buhos Grenache Gran Reserva 2019, Comercializadora Dos Buhos S de RL de CV, Gunajuato
- Pájaro Azul 2020, Malbec 40%, Tempranillo 25%, Cabernet-sauvignon 18%, Syrah / Shiraz 17%, Vinicola Pájaro Azul, Gunajuato
- G&G By Ginasommelier Gran Reserva Malbec 2019, Malbec, Cabernet franc, Cabernet-sauvignon, Hoteles y Viñedos del Valle de Guadalupe, Baja California
- Casa Madero Gran Reserva Malbec 2020, Vinícola San Lorenzo, S.A de C.V, Coahuila
- Inspiracion Coco Nebbiolo - Merlot - Syrah 2017, Nebbiolo 88%, Merlot 5%, Syrah / Shiraz 5%, Llano Colorado, Baja California
- Bajalupano Merlot Reserva 2020, Merlot 60%, Cabernet-sauvignon 40%, Bajalupano, Baja California
- Solar Fortun Syrah 2022, Vinicola Solar Fortun, Baja California
In total, wines from 54 countries competed in front of 450 international judges. The jury is made up of professionals, opinion leaders and people who are part of the world wine economy, and the wines presented are evaluated according to their character, style and price.
The CMB has positioned itself within the wine world for its independence, its rigor and process in wine tasting, which guarantees greater objectivity in the results.
The competition is divided into 4 sessions, which, during the year 2024, were scheduled as follows:
- Rosé Wines Session: Dalmatia, from March 20 to 22.
- Red and White Wines Session: Guanajuato, from June 7 to 9.
- Sparkling Wines Session: Alghero, July 3 to 5.
- Sweet and Fortified Wines Session: Brussels, September 30 to October 2.
Guanajuato currently ranks fifth internationally in grape planting, and is one of the states that mainly promotes the wine industry in Mexico, which is why it has managed to host important events such as:
- Mexico Selection Guanajuato by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2021.
- Mexico Selection Guanajuato by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2022
- Grape harvest festivities at Guanajuato Tierra de Vinos 2022.
