Mexican wines have been growing in importance in the United States for the past decade, and now Mexican restaurant owners in Southern California and Las Vegas will get the chance to sample some of the very best at three events in October. The events are sponsored by La Competencia, an importer of Mexican wine.
The events are similar to a series La Competencia sponsored in Texas earlier this year (click here to read about those). The events include a time for the trade to learn about the wines, followed by a public event that includes wine tastings and food from an upscale Mexican restaurant.
Each of the three will feature a substantial selection of wines from leading Mexican wineries that export to the United States. For example, the event in Tustin, California on October 19 will includes wines from Bruma, Casa Jipi, Casa Magoni, Guaname, Henri Lurton, Palafox, Tribos, Vinsur and many others.
Tom Bracamontes, owner of La Competencia, says he hopes the events become annual or biannual, so that the Mexican wineries start to enjoy the broader appreciation that wineries from many other countries, such as Peru and Argentina, now benefit from.
The events are as follows:
Chaak Mexican Food & Wine Event (Tustin, CA / Oct. 19)
Valle Mexican Food & Wine Festival (Oceanside, CA / Oct. 22)
Border Grill Mexican Wine & Food Festival (Las Vegas, NV / Oct. 25)
