Max Reis’s career in the restaurant industry started rather inauspiciously at age 14, when he started working at a local bakery in Napa, California. A move to attend art school took him to Los Angeles at 17, where he joined a band, worked at Century City’s RockSugar, and learned about mixology from the restaurant's cocktail consultants.
Stints at Gracias Madre, République, and then Gracias Madre for a second time followed…and in 2021, he joined the opening team at Mírate to lead their new Mexican spirit-focused beverage program.
It is Reis’ work at Mírate — where he promotes and supports ethically sourced, wide-ranging Mexican-made spirits including tequila, mezcal and xtabentún — that earned him the Rising Star Bartender Award on the list of 2024 StarChefs Los Angeles Rising Stars.
