Dad enjoys a drink or two on Father’s Day, right? And what better drink than a good Mexican wine? The Mexican Wine Council (Consejo Mexicano Vitivinícola [CMV]) agrees. The organization co-sponsored an event to commemorate Father’s Day through a pairing of Mexican wines with the fine cuisine at Novo Brasileiríssimo restaurant in Mexico City.
The press event, co-sponsored with CANIRAC, a restaurant organization, attracted about 15 journalists, bloggers and other influencers. CMV's director, Ana Paula Robles Sahagún, welcomed attendees and encouraged them to opt for a full Mexican dining experience, which includes Mexican wine and cusine.
“We will never go wrong by choosing Mexican wine,” Robles said, adding that Mexican wineries today produce fine wines in all major categories, including white, rosé, sparkling and red.
The staff of the Novo Brasileiríssimo restaurant welcomed attendees with a lemon caipirinha, followed by an empanada filled with cheese, corn kernels and Brazilian plantain. This was the prelude to the rodizio-style menu, accompanied by a bar of hot and cold salads.
The wine pairing consisted of three wines from different states in Mexico:
- Zapa 2021, a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot from Tierra Adentro in Coahuila.
- Santo Tomas Syrah 2021 from Bodegas de Santo Tomas, Baja California.
- Torre de Tierra, a blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon from Cuna de Tierra in Guanajuato.
The attendees were invited to combine the different types of meats, vegetables, pastas, cheeses and fruits with the different wines selected for this event.
