Lots of people post things on social media about food and restaurants that they like, but usually those posts don’t go far. But Nic Flood, a social media content creator known as “The Fat Electrician,” posted a YouTube video celebrating the spicy tater tots at Taco John’s that got a lot of attention.
Eventually, the folks at Taco John’s saw the video – which is essentially a fast-talking exploration of the history of Taco John’s – and invited Flood to create a burrito for them. Alongside his friend Zach (@VeteranWithASign), Flood visited Taco John’s headquarters and test kitchen where he worked alongside Taco John’s chefs to explore flavors, experiment with ingredients, and build a burrito inspired by his own Taco John’s cravings. The result was the Fat Grilled Burrito, which combines grilled chicken, sirloin steak, Potato Olés®, nacho cheese, four-cheese blend, and Chipotle Ranch.
“Taco John’s let me create the burrito I’ve always wanted, and I can guarantee one thing: it’s going to be delicious,” Flood said in a press statement.
There’s also a philanthropic angle to this story: In recognition of Flood’s Army service as a combat medic, a portion of the burrito proceeds went to a national charity that supports military members, veterans, first responders, and their families.
The limited-time menu item was sold from August 13-27.
“This wasn’t a collaboration that was created because of a contract or a marketing plan, it started because Nic was a genuine fan who shared the story of Taco John’s with his community,” said Brad Bergaus, Corporate Chef & Director of Menu Innovation at Taco John’s. “We were excited to help him share that passion with other fans by giving him the ultimate platform to do something fans rarely get to do: step inside the kitchen and help create something they can actually order.”
