Javier Sosa, owner of Javier’s Finest Foods of Mexico will be the speaker at the Antojo Industry Trade Expo’s Bienvenidos Pan Dulce & Café, a welcome and networking event from 9 – 10 a.m. on Monday, October 13. The morning gathering will kick off the 2-day trade event that runs through Tuesday, October 14 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California.
Sosa founded Javier’s Finest Foods of Mexico in 1995 in Laguna Beach, California, and built it into a regional chain with current locations in Newport Beach, Irvine, DTLA, Century City, La Jolla, Las Vegas and Los Cabos. The restaurants are known for serving dishes rooted in rich traditions and elevated by modern craftsmanship — all inspired by regional Mexican cuisine.
But as popular as his restaurants have become, this restaurateur’s real claim to fame is something far simpler than the dishes Javier’s serves: Sosa invented Taco Tuesdays in 1980 when he was a manager at the Tortilla Flats location in Laguna Beach and started offering tacos for 50 cents to boost business on what was then the slowest day of the week!
