The first-ever Chipotle Mexican Grill locations in South Korea and Singapore are scheduled to open in 2026 thanks to a joint venture between the chain and South Korea-based SPC Group.
"With a rapidly evolving dining-out business, fueled by preferences for variety and convenience, expanding into Asia presents an incredible growth opportunity for Chipotle," Scott Boatwright, Chief Executive Officer of Chipotle, said in a September 15 release announcing the expansion.
"Given the familiarity of this iconic brand among Koreans and Singaporeans, and their passion for exceptional culinary experiences, these two markets are ideal entry points for Chipotle in Asia," added Heesoo Hur, Executive Vice President and owner of SPC Group.
That familiarity comes courtesy of (as least in part) to popular K-pop groups who have touted Chipotle’s menu. In 2021, the company temporarily changed its name on X to "Chicotle" after a member of one K-pop group referred to the restaurant as "Chicotle" and said he wanted to "eat [it] every day." Two years later, members of a K-pop girl group said they "couldn't live without Chipotle" despite not being able to access it in Korea.
