Tito’s Tacos, a legendary fast casual restaurant in Los Angeles, has been teaming up with Tito’s Handmade Vodka for the past six years for a community fundraising event called Tito’s Fiesta Mexicana. Now the restaurant has created a documentary, “Tito’s Tapestry,” that highlights the event.
Tito’s Fiesta Mexicana, a celebration of Mexican culture held each year on October 4 in the midst of Hispanic Heritage Month, serves as a fundraiser for Culver City Arts Foundation, while commemorating National Taco Day and National Vodka Day. The celebration features award-winning mariachis, folk dancers and crafts, and over 1,500 people attended in 2023.
Tito’s Tapestry, which was directed by Anthony D'Eredita, captures the essence of this yearly community endeavor, showcasing performances and the people involved and how the event brings together individuals from all walks of life, while at the same time shining a spotlight on the beloved Los Angeles’ restaurant. Interviews in the film include Tito’s Tacos co-owner Lynne Davidson, the granddaughter of Tito’s Tacos’ founder Benjamin Davidson, which highlight the ethos behind the brand as well as the made-from-scratch dishes that have been on the menu since 1959. Other interviewees include longtime employees, event musicians and dancers, and a pinata maker.
The documentary, released on September 4 on YouTube, highlights the power of community engagement and the importance of preserving cultural traditions while supporting local arts. Click here to watch the video.
