Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin are three states getting all kinds of attention as November 5 approaches. Here at el Restaurante, we’re leaving politics to the pundits, and just reporting on the culinary scene in these swing states, which have recently welcomed these Mexican/Latin restaurants:
La Baja, the new BYOB Mexican restaurant in Ambler, Pennsylvania from James Beard Award Finalist Chef Dionicio Jiménez and his wife Mariangeli Alicea Saez (who also own nearby Cantina La Martina) features a menu inspired by “Cocina de Frontera,” the food of the Mexican borders. The restaurant’s mission is to share dishes from places throughout the Mexican borders and the stories.
El Santo Tacos & Tequila in Marquette, Michigan, opened its doors in this Upper Peninsula town mid-August. The menu and décor are “based on Mexico and the small magic towns that we have down there… we’re happy to bring this culture up here to the UP,” owner Ramon Ayala told Station WZMQ.
Latin Flavor Restaurant Bar and Grill — the latest addition to downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin restaurant scene — is a Mexican-Dominican restaurant that’s housed where the Green Bay Packers offices once stood!
