As immigration raids continue to escalate, more and more members of the restaurant community are being caught up in the ICE dragnet being cast not only in Los Angeles but in cities around the country, as well.
Lilly Rocha, co-founder and board chair of the Latino Restaurant Association (LRA), expressed her concern about the situation unfolding in communities nationwide.
“We’ve had many phone calls, not only about workers not going to work because they are really scared to go out…now we’re getting phone calls from people we actually know getting picked up by ICE,” Rocha said in a recent Instagram post. “We’re very disgusted by all that’s been happening, the way these things are being conducted…there really isn’t a plan. I’m speaking up because we need to…we’re talking about people being snatched up off the streets indiscriminately…now have reports of LA members being picked up by ICE.”
