el Restaurante congratulates Casa Carlos and Cantina — the family-owned restaurant that Eduardo and Carmen Carlos opened in Marysville, California — on its 60th birthday! The community marked the milestone with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony, sponsored by the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce and the city of Maryville.
Ron Carlos, the founders’ son who has helmed the restaurant for more than 40 years, thanked his staff members and customers during the event, the local paper, The Appeal Democrat, reported.
“I’ve been fortunate to serve three generations of customers. That’s you guys. That’s what keeps the doors open, but you don't just get loyal customers. You have to earn them. I’ve been blessed with some amazing crews who have worked here,” Carlos said. “I like to think of my front of house as the heart and soul … but the backbone of this operation is my kitchen.”
Casa Carlos memorialized the ceremony on Instagram and Facebook with this message: “What a fun afternoon, we feel so loved by this community! Thank you to @yubasutter_chamber for organizing this wonderful event, to the City Of Marysville for such amazing support & representation, to the @theappealdemocrat for sharing our 60-year story, to all the staff (past & present) for giving us your best every day, to our friends & of course our family. Our hearts our full of gratitude. “
That 60-year story began when the founders, both second-generation immigrants from North Central Mexico, shared their home-made recipes with field workers when Eduardo was a foreman responsible for feeding Mexican workers traveling to California as part of the Bracero Program. “My mother often recalled fondly that it was the field workers who encouraged my parents to open their own restaurant,” information on the restaurant’s website explains. “With many sacrifices and entrepreneurial gusto, that is just what they did.”
Here's to 60 more years of success!
