La Fiesta Restaurant in Denver has endured many challenges over its 60 years of existence, but it took the current deep freeze weather to shut them down: Frozen pipes flooded the restaurant on January 16.
"We're temporarily closed due to a burst pipe!," the restaurant announced on its Facebook page. "Dear valued customers, La Fiesta unfortunately suffered water damage on January 16th when a pipe froze and burst, flooding parts of our restaurant. This has forced us to temporarily close while we make the necessary repairs. We anticipate this to take no more than one month, and we are optimistic that it may be completed even sooner."
Fans of the restaurant showed their love in comments: "Been a loyal customer for 30+ years. I’ll be back as soon as you re-open! Best chili rellenos ever!!" one wrote. The owners responded: "Reading your comments has truly made our day and is a continual reminder of what remains important in life - people! You all are truly wonderful! Thank you for your heart felt comments! On a side note, we are working on rolling out some of our award winning dishes/recipes and making them available for purchase on our website and soon to be, in grocery stores."
According to an article in Denver's weekly newspaper Westword, owner Michael Herrera discovered asbestos when he was evaluating the damage, which means the clean-up job is more than just mopping up the water.
The restaurant's fans will definitely be back when the restaurant re-opens: "I hope everything goes smoothly and according to plan...I need my chicken & bean smothered green super burrito!" wrote another Facebook follower.
