Billed as “a place where great food meets great vibes!” Akilia Cosina arrived in Chicago’s trendy West Loop neighborhood with a Grand Opening celebration on November 14th.
The restaurant goes beyond a traditional Mexican dining spot: In addition to a menu featuring items like ceviche, street corn, flautas, guacamole, quesadillas and more, the space offers an experience for sports fans that includes premium sports channels and big-screen TVs, allowing customers to watch Bears, Bulls, White Sox and Cubs games, as well as pay-per-view sporting events like UFC fights, mixed martial arts, wrestling and boxing.
The concept for Akilia Cosina “was born out of a love of sports from business partners Fad Akileh and Sameer Sawaqed. Akileh, a lifelong wrestler, and Sawaqed, an avid sports fan” who were “always struggling to watch sports comfortably at bars across the city,” a profile of the restaurant from Block Club Chicago.
“I’m excited to offer something new in the community that can give them a good experience [where] you don’t feel claustrophobic while you’re watching a fight, watching a game, you feel at home,” Akileh told Block Club. “That’s the big picture.”
