Northgate González Market, which has 46 stores in Southern California, has launched “Familia Fútbol,” a campaign leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup that celebrates the culture, cuisine, and passion for soccer. The launch event, held on Wednesday, March 18, at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, California, marked the start of a community celebration that will continue through the end of the tournament.
“Soccer isn’t just a sport for our families; it’s memory, identity, and pride,” said Oscar González, co-president of Northgate González Market. “Familia Fútbol is our way of celebrating this historic World Cup moment through the food, culture, and values that define who we are and whom we serve. Once you step into a Latino home, you’re family forever.”
The official launch was hosted by former Mexican soccer player Mariano Trujillo and sports journalist and digital creator Livette Ruvalcaba. Guests were able to tour a curated display of Familia Fútbol memorabilia, as well as iconic pieces paying tribute to Mexican legends, enjoy live entertainment featuring soccer freestylers and mariachi bands, and participate in interactive experiences.
At the heart of the Familia Fútbol campaign is a cast of Mexican cultural legends and sports icons, each representing a pillar of community identity. Boxing champion Julio César Chávez embodies loyalty and pride; legendary goalkeeper Jorge Campos embodies joy, creativity, and a love for the game; wrestler El Hijo del Santo represents generational heritage and honor; and beloved actress and singer Angélica María serves as the campaign’s maternal figure, anchoring family tradition and affection. Representing the new generation is Scarlett Camberos, star of Mexico’s women’s national soccer team and a digital influencer. The cast is rounded out by the iconic Pedro Infante, whose legacy brings emotional warmth and nostalgia to the heart of the campaign.
The campaign also features renowned soccer legends such as Paco Palencia, Claudio Suárez, Ramón Morales, Braulio Luna, Francisco “Maza” Rodríguez, and Carlos Hermosillo, World Cup veterans whose connection to the community is deep and enduring.
Familia Fútbol will unfold across Southern California through a series of events leading up to the World Cup final in June 2026, including:
– Fan meet-and-greets with Julio César Chávez, El Hijo del Santo, and Angélica María.
– Eight Familia Fútbol fan festivals, which will transform the Northgate Market parking lots into community stadium-style spaces (April–June).
– Youth soccer clinics in collaboration with Pixixi, led by Mexican soccer legends (April – June).
– World Cup-themed makeover giveaway for Mother’s Day, recognizing the MVPs of match day (April 15 – May 10).
