Sometimes restaurants become community icons. A good example is La Posta de Acapulco in San Diego, which was located in an architecturally interesting kiosk until suddenly closing last summer. Over time, the structure became worn and outdated, losing some of the charm that once made it a neighborhood favorite.
Now the restaurant has reopened as Crest Taco under new ownership and a renewed vision. The kiosk has now been thoughtfully revitalized with a fresh face lift by designer Mindful Design Consulting.
The redesign focused on preserving the recognizable character of the original kiosk while introducing brighter finishes, modern materials, and a cleaner, more welcoming exterior presence. Given its prominent corner location and steady foot traffic from nearby residents, visitors, and hospital staff, the refreshed design was carefully crafted to feel approachable, lively, and aligned with the quality of the new owner’s food and service.
Crest Taco is co-owned by Chef Nicholas Garcia, who previously worked at The Santaluz Country Club, The Prado and other establishments in the area. In an article in Uptown News, he described the menu at Crest Taco as “traditional Mexican using fresh produce and butcher-block meats.”
