Takito Street in Chicago
We were excited to learn that our friend, Mario Ponce, has opened the third restaurant in his Takito group in Chicago. The first two, Bar Takito and Takito Kitchen, already raised the bar for great tacos in the Windy City, and now his third, Takito Street, aims to take it even higher.
The menu at Takito Street was designed by Dudley Nieto, who is well known in the Mexican restaurant industry for developing top-notch menus. Nieto's plan for Takito Street includes tacos made with al pastor shaved from a trompo, Korean beef tacos, and Takito fried chicken. Other dishes include pozole, flautas and esquites.
An interesting innovation at the restaurant is a way for customers to indicate whether they want a quick-service experience or a comfortable, full-service dining experience. If they want speed, they put up a green medallion; if they want a fine-dining experience, they put up red.
The decor also is innovative. This is from their website:
"With its fresh, light-hearted approach to Mexican cuisine/food, Takito Street will quickly become a neighborhood hangout. The restaurant space (created by local designer & co-partner Valerie Sanchez) will transport diners to a contemporary outdoor Mexican street market influenced by its theatre barrio. The back rooms of the restaurant will stream classic black and white cinema films on its walls. The interior artwork by local graffiti artist Gabriel Moskolis (Lymelite Studio), the large marquee, sleek bucket seat booths & vintage vespa complement what the Takito brand has been known as a leader in restaurant design."
