The vibrant Peruvian restaurant scene in San Francisco will be highlighted during “Passport to Peru: A Celebration of San Francisco’s Peruvian Restaurants,” a 10-day program that will run from Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 28, which marks Peru’s Independence Day.
The event was launched by La Mar Cocina Peruana, a Peruvian sea-to-table restaurant led by Chef Gastón Acurio. Participating restaurants include La Mar, Chotto Matte, Bocado, Mariposas, Lomo Libre, and Puerto 27.
The program encourages diners to visit as many of the six restaurants as possible during the 10-day period, enjoying at least one designated menu item at each location. Participants will receive custom-designed “passports” when they begin their journey, and a stamp each time they order one of the select dishes.
Diners who collect stamps from at least four participating restaurants will be eligible to submit their stamped passport to La Mar on Sunday, July 28, during the restaurant’s Peruvian Independence Day celebration, for a chance to win a trip to Lima, Peru, inclusive of two complimentary round-trip economy tickets, a four-night hotel stay, and a 10-course dinner at Gastón Acurio’s highly acclaimed restaurant, Astrid & Gastón. The winner will be announced on Monday, July 29 via social media and will be contacted directly.
"We are delighted to launch Passport to Peru and highlight the diverse array of dishes unique to Peruvian cuisine right here in San Francisco," said Thomas Medl, director of operations for La Mar Cocina Peruana, in a press release. "This initiative not only honors the country’s culinary heritage, but also supports our local Peruvian restaurants, inviting foodies, travel enthusiasts, and the broader Bay Area community to taste the rich tapestry of Peruvian flavors.”
