When people think of wine, they usually imagine drinking it. But viewing images of wine country and the people who work in the industry also can be truly pleasurable. That’s the idea behind a new program called “Entre Las Vides de Mexico” (Among the Vines of Mexico), an exhibition of 62 large-format photographs.
The exhibit, part of Mexico City’s Open Galleries program, is at the Grutas de las Rejas Open Gallery in Chapultepec Park. The exhibition highlights the agricultural work and the relevance of Mexican vineyards, such as Baja California, Guanajuato, Coahuila, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, to mention a few. It shows winter pruning, night harvests, bunches picked, sunrises, nights and storms in the vines.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Mexican Wine Council and the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Federal Government.
The inauguration of the gallery on November 20 was attended by Mirna Aragón Sánchez, general director of Agricultural Promotion; Salomón Abedrop, president of the Mexican Wine Council; and Ignacio Urquiza, curator of the photographic exhibition, who highlighted the objective of raising awareness of life in the Mexican vineyards.
Abedrop expressed his gratitude for this space to showcase Mexico's winemaking heritage and tradition. The exhibition focuses on the work in the fields, the people who make it possible and the social impact on the winemaking communities.
“What we did was to tell a story, from the earth, the water, the rain, the cloud until reaching the vine and the art of wine, I thank the photographers who got up early to take those hands, those vines and that land,” Urquiza said.
The exhibition will remain on view through January 19, 2025 at the Grutas de las Rejas Open Gallery in Chapultepec Forest.
