The fires that ripped through the Los Angeles area last month greatly impacted many restaurant workers who suddenly found themselves without jobs. The Latino Restaurant Association (LRA) has stepped up to help them.
A fundraiser on March 15 organized by the LRA, held at famed Mexican restaurant Casa Vega, attracted 140 attendees and raised $41,300. The money is being used to buy gift cards that the displaced workers can use to buy groceries or other needs.
“The first 40 cards of $250 each were disbursed today with the help of the Mexican Consulate of Los Angeles,” says Lilly Rocha, CEO of the LRA. "Although we know the need is great, the LRA is happy to help bring some much needed resources to displaced restaurant workers."
