The owners of Guelaguetza restaurant in Los Angeles are recreating a famous mural from Oaxaca in their restaurant.
El Mezcalero is a celebration of a recently boycotted mural in the city of Oaxaca. It depicts the image of a maestro mezcalero captured by photographer Fer Arce Sànchez reimagined by the Oaxacan art collective, La Piztola.
On a recent visit to Oaxaca, the Lopez siblings realized that one of their favorite murals in Oaxaca had been taken down by the Oaxacan authorities. In their efforts to bring Oaxacan artists and work to the forefront, Guelaguetza has partnered once again with collectivo La Piztola to recreate this beautiful masterpiece in their newly designed mezcaleria.
The artists will be working on the mural the week of March 15th in their backroom, and welcome any guests to partake in the process. Their work will culminate on Monday, March 21st with a celebration on mole and mezcal.
The celebration will begin at 7pm with complimentary drinks and appetizers from 7-8pm. At 8pm there will be a special presentation. The bar will continue to be offering complementary mescal cocktails. Any other drinks will be for sale.
