Famed chef Rick Bayless opened Chicago’s Frontera Grill almost 37 years ago, which doesn’t seem like a particularly interesting anniversary. But coincidentally, he opened his restaurant on the 37th anniversary of his parents’ restaurant, the Hickory House in Oklahoma City. So the folks at Frontera have decided to celebrate the 37th with the inaugural Rick Bayless Day on March 21.
“From celebration mariachis to the classic Frontera appetizer trio, we are throwing back 37 years to celebrate Rick Bayless day!” the invitation reads. “Enjoy the celebration alongside Chef Rick in the Frontera Grill dining room where you will savor a multi-course prix fixe menu encapsulating the long and storied history of Frontera Grill.”
People can celebrate with Bayless -- who also owns Topolabampo, Bar Sótano, and numerous other endeavors – by purchasing one of two packages on Resy. The VIP version will set customers back $500 per ticket, but it includes a private demo with the chef himself, a welcome cocktail and snacks, and other goodies. Or for $100 guests can enjoy an “appetizer parade” and their choice of one of Frontera’s best entrees from the past 37 years.
“Long-missed menu items, and many more surprises will ensure a night not soon forgotten. We will have exclusive wines, special cocktails specials!” the invitation continues.
