Tacombi, a Mexican restaurant in New York, is hosting a special outdoor event at North
Brooklyn Farms this Sunday, October 22. It’s an afternoon of barbacoa on the Brooklyn waterfront to help our friends at Mezcal Unión with a program they’ve been running in Oaxaca since the first earthquake hit Mexico in early September. It’s going to be delicious, entertaining and 100% of the proceeds go to Unión x Oaxaca to support their community kitchens.
Set on Williamsburg’s waterfront, Domingo de Barbacoa brings friends, family, and community together here in Nueva York to share Mexican food & culture through the long and varied traditions of Barbacoa. We will be slow-cooking beef overnight, seasoned and wrapped in banana leaves, in our outdoor barbacoa oven ready to be served on hand-pressed tortillas with a side of warm consommé. Cerveza, mezcal y musica and a variety of antojitos will add to the flavor & festivities of the day.
100% of the proceeds will be donated to Unión x Oaxaca. Since the beginning of September Mexico has been hit with three consecutive earthquakes (all above 6.0 in magnitude) that have caused a great deal of devastation. After the first earthquake, our friends at Mezcal Unión decided to help immediately by working with local communities to build and operate sustainable kitchens to feed those in some of the hardest hit areas. Right now, Unión x Oaxaca is operating 4 community kitchens serving 1800 meals a day, but they are hoping to do more to aid in on-going relief and recovery and we are trying to help them in their efforts through fundraising.
