Cinco t-shirt
The countdown to Cinco de Mayo is on, and restaurants are finalizing plans for special drink and dinner menus, entertainment and more.
At La Borinquena in Oakland, Calif., for example, Tina Tamale (real name Tina Ramos) takes advantage of the buzz surrounding Cinco to educate people about Mexican culture. This year, she'll set up her "pop-up brand," a tamale cart, and offer a special brunch menu, special drinks and desserts, plus entertainment by Mariachi Nueva Luz, a band comprised of Mexican youth all under 15. "Tina Tamale invites you to a special Sunday afternoon/tardeada event at La Borinqueña Mex-icatessen honoring Mexican culture!" her website says.
Our Cinco de Mayo Quiz
Do your customers know that Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexico's victory over the French in the Battle of Puebla and NOT Mexican Independence Day? Find out by testing them with our Cinco de Mayo quiz (a long-time favorite of el Restaurante Mexicano readers). Give it to customers on May 5 (you can even promote it on your website and facebook page), then reward them with coupons or special giveaways if they get a perfect score!
