An el Restaurante reader survey in November found that Mother's Day is a much more important holiday for Mexican restaurants than Father's Day. Sixty percent of respondents to the survey said Mother's Day is one of the biggest three holidays of the year for them, compared to only 28 percent who said that about Father's Day. Of course, the biggest holiday of all is Cinco de Mayo, which was cited by 76 percent of respondents.
Another interesting finding from the survey was that 31 percent of respondents speak Spanish and English with their customers; 7 percent speak only Spanish; and 62 percent speak only English.
Finally, another question in the survey asked whether the restaurants served authentic Mexican food or Tex-Mex food. Almost two thirds -- 64 percent -- said they serve authentic Mexican food, while the remainder said they serve Tex-Mex.
