Hugo's Restaurant Delivery
Hugo's Restaurant made and delivered food to first responders and hurricane victims.
Many Mexican restaurants in Houston are stepping up to help hurricane victims and first responders.
For example, Hugos has been making and delivering food to first responders and residents in need, and helping deliver donations. Read this post from their Facebook page on September 29:
We have made the decision to open today at noon. Please come have a nice hot meal and give a hug to a neighbor...IF you can get here safely! We will be serving food, and also offering some special cocktails whose proceeds will go to Harvey relief. We are thinking of all of our friends and neighbors during this difficult time, we just feel like we need to do what we do best - feed your tummy and souls.
Our team will also be cooking to bring food to responders and shelters. We have a van we can safely transport donations from Hugo's to the shelter at the GRB and other shelters. If you are in the area and safe to do so, we will be happy to take your items to those in need!
Another Houston Mexican restaurant that is helping out is El Patio, which re-opened August 29 and served first responders at no cost. They wrote on Facebook:
"We are OPEN. We know you need a Blue Marg or two. ALL FIRST RESPONDERS EAT FREE! We ❤️ you Houston."
Many other Houston restaurants helped:
- Red Pepper Taqueria, which has two locations in Houston, has scheduled a Tacos for Texas event next Tuesday, and will donate half of taco sales to the Houston Food Bank to help feed residents.
- RJ Mexican Cuisine will donate 15 percent of proceeds on Friday to hurricane relief organizations
- Lopez Mexican Restaurant provided food to victims in a shelter and allowed first responders to eat free
- Gloria's Latin Cuisine is donating 10 percent of sales from its 19 locations to the American Red Cross on Tuesday, Sept. 5
- Rusty Taco donated 20 percent of proceeds on Thursday to hurricane relief efforts
In addition, the Texas Restaurant Association and the National Restaurant Association are coordinating Restaurants Respond, which aims to help restaurant employees affected by the storm. Click here to learn more about that group.
