Like many restaurant associations across the country, the Illinois Restaurant Association has been supporting victims of the recent natural disasters in Puerto Rico and Mexico. The IRA published this notice in their latest newsletter:
This week, IRA President & CEO Sam Toia and IRA Second Vice Chair Sam Sanchez were honored to join Chicago Sister Cities International, American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, Consulado General de México en Chicago and other elected officials and civic leaders to support the City's efforts to aid Mexico and Puerto Rico in the wake of devastating natural disasters.
Sanchez urged other businesses to help fundraising efforts, noting how many of the workers the IRA represents have family in Mexico. "I love Mexico," Sanchez said in Spanish and English. "Don't forget about Puerto Rico because they're devastated right now. We are very blessed to be in this country and very fortunate. To support someone less fortunate is an obligation as a human being." Read more at Chicago Tribune.
