The village of Oak Park, Illinois has a new village president who doubles as owner of Maya Del Sol, a popular Latin restaurant in town. Anan Abu-Taleb won the hotly contested election against a long-time village leader, John Hedges. Abu-Taleb, who has not previously held elective office, stressed that his success as a restaurant owner qualified him to hold the position. He promises to improve the business climate in Oak Park, which is largely a bedroom community immediately west of Chicago. Read more here.
