A survey of el Restaurante readers late last week shows that take-out and delivery are now the key lifelines for the majority of the industry. Here are details:
What Services are You Offering:
Take-out and delivery only = 40 percent
Only takeout = 26 percent
Only delivery = 2 percent
Restaurant is closed = 31 percent
If you have closed, will you reopen once the crisis is over?
Yes = 72 percent
No = 14 percent
Maybe = 14 percent
The remainder of the questions were directed only to respondents who said they were still open (69 percent):
Did You Offer Delivery Before the Crisis?
Yes = 41 percent
No, we started delivery after the crisis hit = 26 percent
We still don’t offer delivery = 33 percent
Do You Offer Curbside Pickup?
Yes, and we always have = 8 percent
Yes, but we started only once the crisis hit = 77 percent
No = 15 percent
If you have always offered delivery/takeout, how has your business changed?
It’s the same as before = 8 percent
It’s less than before = 30 percent
It has grown from 5 percent to 50 percent = 35 percent
It has grown from 51 percent to 99 percent = 4 percent
It has doubled or more = 31 percent
Have you laid off staff?
No = 4 percent
Yes, less than half = 19 percent
Yes, more than half, but not all = 74 percent
Yes, all of our employees, but owners are still working = 4 percent
How are your sales now compared to before the crisis?
Down 25-50 percent = 11 percent
Down 51-75 percent = 52 percent
Down 76-99 percent = 37 percent
How long do you think you can remain in business under the current conditions?
Less than one month = 23 percent
One to three months = 42 percent
Four to six months = 20 percent
Six months to a year = 12 percent
Indefinitely = 4 percent
