As Mexican wines have grown in popularity, so has tourism focused on visits to Mexican vineyards and wineries. The value of that tourism has been acknowledged by a new collaboration agreement between the Mexican Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) and the Mexican Wine Council (CMV).
“This alliance with SECTUR not only expands opportunities to showcase the richness and quality of our wines, but also opens the door to a promising future where wine tourism becomes an engine of economic, social, and cultural development for our wine-producing regions,” said Salomón Abedrop, president of the CMV.
The agreement establishes a joint agenda aimed at promoting the country's wine regions, improving the tourist experience associated with wine production, and fostering sustainable development in wine-producing areas.
Among the actions contemplated are the exchange of statistical information to strengthen decision-making in tourism policy, as well as the coordinated promotion of wine destinations in collaboration with state and municipal authorities.
“The wine sector is a valuable tourist asset that helps diversify our offerings and enrich the visitor experience,” said Nathalie Desplas, head of the Tourism Information and Policy Unit. “This agreement with the CMV is a firm step toward promoting wine tourism, generating economic revenue in the producing regions, and promoting the cultural wealth associated with Mexican wine.”
In addition, free digital content will be developed for platforms such as the “Visit Mexico” portal and the social networks of SECTUR, the CMV, and strategic allies with the aim of spreading the culture of Mexican wine and highlighting the appeal of its producing regions.
Finally, both institutions expressed their willingness to expand this collaboration to new strategic areas, laying the foundations for future agreements that continue to position wine tourism as a central axis of national tourism and promote Mexican wine and its producing regions as protagonists in the promotion of Mexico at the national and international levels.
