The Latino Restaurant Association (LRA), an organization founded in 2018 and based in Los Angeles, is stepping up to help Mexican/Latin restaurants and frontline healthcare workers. In a program called "Meals for Healthcare Workers/Aid for Restaurants," the LRA is collecting donations and using the money to buy meals from Mexican/Latin restaurants for the healthcare workers.
According to Lily Rocha, LRA's board chair, the organization has already raised $100,000, including a $50,000 contribution from Walmart. The group donated 500 meals to healthcare workers at USC Medical Center on May 12 and other events are coming.
"The program will feed healthcare workers, assist restaurants who have been impacted and utilize delivery drivers to deliver the meals," a flyer promoting the program says. "It encompasses many immediate needs and helps put needed funds in the hands of the most essential workers."
