This coming year will bring several new developments at el Restaurante magazine. In this Q&A, publisher Ed Avis explains what’s happening.
Q: So what will readers see that’s new in el Restaurante in 2019?
A: We have three cool things going on. First, we’ll have a larger emphasis on news in 2019. This will include more articles about interesting things our readers are doing, trends that we think are important, and economic issues that affect our readers, such as food prices.
Second, editor Kathy Furore is developing a series of profiles of women leaders in Mexican/Latin restaurants. I’m sure all of our readers will enjoy learning how these women are transforming the restaurant industry.
And third, we are working on something truly beautiful: a series of articles about Mexican/Latin restaurant design, with lots of photos and stories from designers and owners developing restaurants that are true works of art.
Of course, we’ll keep seeking out great recipes, restaurant profiles, industry reports, and the other editorial elements that engage our readers.
Q: Any new opportunities for vendors to the industry in 2019?
A: We will be emphasizing that we can help vendors reach the Mexican/Latin restaurant market with services that go beyond advertising.
For example, if a company wants to test a product or a marketing idea before launch, we can present it to the el Restaurante Reader Advisory Panel. This is a group of Mexican restaurant owners/managers who are on the front lines of the industry and can give honest feedback.
We also will be preparing a special mailing to newly opened Mexican restaurants. Like 2018, we’ll do this in conjunction with the May issue. Being part of this mailing is a great way for a vendor to reach these restaurants just as they are making decisions about suppliers.
And finally, we just wrapped up our first-ever mailing to our exclusive list of distributors/brokers to the Mexican restaurant industry. This is a list of 170+ distributors and brokers across the United States who serve Mexican restaurants. We mailed them a four-page flyer listing the products various vendors are seeking distribution for. Depending on the feedback we get from these folks, we’ll do another mailing like this in mid-2019.
Of course, once a vendor is ready, we offer affordable and effective advertising packages that include print, digital and email promotions. Vendors can learn more in our 2019 Media Kit, and of course they can email me at edavis@restmex.com or call me at 708-218-7755.
