Natural disasters have pounded these Latin American regions leaving future uncertain for many
Washington, DC and Denver, CO – Americas for Conservation + Arts, and its Latina GIving Circle in partnership with CREA Results, El Instituto de Artes y Oficios para la Comunicación Estratégica, Diles Que Voten, Heuristica Comunicación, and Benitez Strategies, have launched the Mexico (MX) & Puerto Rico (PR) Resilience Fund to help families and communities recover from the recent earthquakes and hurricanes that have devastated these Latin American regions.
“The emergency may last 24 hours but the recovery and rebuilding lives efforts lasts for at least 24 weeks, which is why it is critical that the giving, solidarity and support continues,” said Irene Vilar, AFC+A. “It is time for us as Latinos and Americans to step up and show just how big our heart is.”
All donations will go to support the United Way MX (Fondo Unido México), a nonprofit that is providing natural disaster relief to communities affected during the September 6 and September 19 earthquakes in Mexico; and the Departamento de la Comida in Puerto Rico, a grassroots non-profit that is committed to providing food and relief to those affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
“Our goal is to help those who were affected rebuild and restore their homes, communities, environment, and lives,” said Fernando Pineda-Reyes, CREA Results. “Our work began within 24 hours after the disasters occurred and will continue for at least 24 weeks to accompany and support the recovery process.”
The fund will support community rebuilding and recovery after the immediate relief efforts and will lay the groundwork for the long-term recovery effort, which is expected to take several years. The fund also plans to offer some short-term assistance.
“As a Latino community, we come together as a family in times of disaster and crisis, said Felipe Benitez, Benitez Strategies and El Instituto . “Many of the organizers of the fund have families, friends, and roots in these Latin American regions.”
All proceeds will be distributed to the regions affected by natural disasters in Mexico and Puerto Rico. The team will work with relief coordinators in the affected areas to determine the most effective means of distribution.
